Meet Warden for James Baillie Park
Claudette Schala
Hi everyone I'm Claudette, Warden for James Baillie Park.
I joined the University of Leeds nine years ago.
I studied literature, economics, and urban history, trained as a history teacher and briefly tried research. I eventually realised I enjoy all those things much more when I don't have to do them for a living.
I now work at the University, mostly with tech stuff- a slightly odd turn from history. I also have a role as a Warden, looking after students.
I like learning, making and fixing things - which has led to a slightly ridiculous number of hobbies.
Three top tips from me would be:
- Embrace the journey. The distance to campus might not feel like an advantage at first, but the walk (or ride) is a great reset between home and University.
- Nobody arrives knowing how to do university. Some first year students may look like they have it all figured out, but you're all adjusting to university in your own ways.
- Be considerate before you're asked. Don't be afraid to speak up or seek help if something is affecting you, but also remember that being a good flatmate or neighbour also means not always needing to be asked.
Residence Life Social Committee
Whilst in Halls you have the opportunity to join your Residence Life Social Committee!
The Residence Life Social Committee programme (RLSC) provides you with the opportunity to run events for residents in your hall, and to make the most of your time in halls.
You'll meet regularly as a Committee and work within a budget to plan exciting social events, fundraisers and campaigns. It’s a great way to meet people, get involved in the community and develop important professional skills including event management, teamwork and time management.
You will also get to be part of a wider personal development programme focused on expanding your leadership and team-building abilities.
